An Open Letter To Héctor

After ten years, it seems that our time together has come to an end. There’s so much to talk about, like the three FA Cup victories over Aston Villa and Chelsea (twice).

Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey celebrates scoring his side’s second goal of the game with team mate Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin

Personally, that half volley against Chelsea in the 92nd minute to secure a draw will always stick with me. It was my first time at the Emirates after eight years of supporting Arsenal, and you literally saved the day.

Although the memories on the pitch are far and wide. Outside of the pitch are the most important ones. It’s sad to see you not become the next El Capitan of Arsenal. You really care about this club and made us proud by carrying our values forward.

You helped me understand what it means to be an Arsenal fan. The way you played on the pitch made me a fan of Héctor ‘the player’, but what you did (and continue to do) outside of it made me admire you as a human.

I’m sorry that the relationship became toxic by the end, from some fans. However, the majority appreciate you and love you. We were always there through the ups and downs, the injuries and the victories. I’m sure you always gave your all, so thank you for wearing the red and white with pride.

Keep being the great player and amazing human being that you are.

Thank you so much for everything. Best of luck with your new adventure.

Once a Gunner, always a Gunner.
