Ranking all 38 of Arsenal’s 21/22 Premier League performances from worst to best

The 2021/22 Premier League season has come to a close with Arsenal finishing fifth, two points off the Champions League places.

Despite overachieving in many people’s eyes, it is a case of a missed opportunity with a return to Europe’s elite competition in the club’s hands multiple times.

With the domestic campaign now complete for clubs in the top flight, we have ranked all 38 of Arsenal’s performances in the league this season.

38. Manchester City 5-0 Arsenal
Shocking performance. Granit Xhaka red card. 2-0 down in 12 minutes. Sead Kolasinac in the starting XI. A humiliating day all round.

37. Newcastle United 2-0 Arsenal
A win would have put Arsenal in the top-four driving seat going into the last day of the season but they were absolutely dominated at St James’ Park.

36. Tottenham 3-0 Arsenal
A win would have secured a top-four finish but instead, Arsenal gave Spurs a huge psychological boost as they ultimately finished fourth. Rob Holding was sent off and Cedric Soares gave away a penalty. Poor.

35. Everton 2-1 Arsenal
Everton were absolutely all over the shop on and off the pitch but were able to beat Arsenal thanks to a last-gasp Demarai Gray screamer. The Toffees also had two goals disallowed for extremely narrow offsides, so it could have been a whole lot worse.

34. Brentford 2-0 Arsenal
First game of the season at newly-promoted Brentford was always going to be tough but my oh my, what a poor performance this was.

33. Liverpool 4-0 Arsenal
On a superb run of form, Arsenal went to Anfield and were humbled.

32. Arsenal 1-2 Brighton
One of the games Arsenal fans will look back on and think: ‘if only we won this one, we would have got top four’. Booed off the pitch a week prior for a 0-0 draw at home to Norwich, Brighton ended a run of seven without a win by taking three points at the Emirates.

31. Crystal Palace 3-0 Arsenal
Beaten with ease, Arsenal fought back in the second half before a Wilfried Zaha penalty put the final nail in the coffin.

30. Southampton 1-0 Arsenal
Southampton had just lost 6-0 to Chelsea at home. They were without a win in six. Enter Arsenal.

29. Arsenal 0-2 Chelsea
Second game of the season, the first at home. Tough day in the office. Pablo Mari played and made Romelu Lukaku look incredible, when in actual fact, the Belgian striker has had a really underwhelming season.

28. Arsenal 2-2 Crystal Palace
Arsenal scored a late, late goal to salvage a point and were pretty lucky to do so.

26. Arsenal 0-0 Burnley
A missed opportunity. Burnley should have been down to 10 men, but even at 11v11, it should have been three crucial points.

26. Brighton 0-0 Arsenal
Another game that Arsenal were lucky to get something out of. Brighton were on top for the majority of the match but the Gunners stood firm.

25. Manchester United 3-2 Arsenal
Michael Carrick was United manager for this game and got a result. Incredible.

24. Arsenal 3-1 Manchester United
This was a great win for Arsenal but they were actually incredibly average on the day. Lucky for us, Manchester United are an absolute shambles at the minute.

23. Arsenal 2-1 Leeds United
This would have been much higher on the list if it wasn’t for the last 20 minutes of the match. Leeds scored with their only chance of the game and are the only team to score from a corner against Arsenal this season.

22. Burnley 0-1 Arsenal
Good win on the road. Arsenal’s first away win of the season.

21. Arsenal 1-0 Norwich City
From Arsenal’s first away win to Arsenal’s first home win. Getting the three points was the most important thing and if we didn’t manage to get it, things could have turned very sour, very quick.

20. Leicester City 0-2 Arsenal
A tough place to go most seasons, Leicester struggled in 21/22 and Arsenal had the three points wrapped up by half time.

19. Arsenal 1-0 Watford
Ainsley Maitland-Niles got man of the match in this game and then disappeared. Hard-fought win but it was more uncomfortable than it needed to be.

18. Arsenal 0-2 Liverpool
A respectable performance against *arguably* the best team in the world. Zero points but signs of progress.

17. West Ham United 1-2 Arsenal
A great win for Arsenal – one that made many believe they had the cojones to get the job done and finish fourth.

Eddie Nketiah of Arsenal celebrates as Arsenal take the lead 1-2

16. Wolves 0-1 Arsenal
Another tough game, and Arsenal had the nerve to CELEBRATE the win. B*stards.

15. Arsenal 2-1 Wolves
We’re going back-to-back with wins over Wolves. Nicolas Pepe came on and changed the game, Eddie Nketiah also made a difference off the bench. A last-minute winner as well. I think it was Arsenal’s first in about 15 years.

14. Aston Villa 0-1 Arsenal
Bukayo Saka’s first-half strike was enough to win the match and get the Celebration Police sweating once more.

13. Arsenal 2-1 Brentford
A nice run out for the boys. Good performance that had some of its gloss taken off by a last-minute consolation goal from Brentford.

12. Arsenal 2-0 Newcastle United
Despite talking about being dominated by Newcastle in our second-worst league performance of the season, this game was potentially Arsenal’s most comfortable win in 21/22.

11. Arsenal 1-2 Manchester City
A loss is a loss, but Arsenal looked pretty damn good against City. Maybe Airpod Albert should run the touchline more often.

10. Arsenal 3-1 Aston Villa
Solid performance under the lights in north London. Jacob Ramsey’s screamer made the win look less handsome after Emile Smith Rowe netted against the team he apparently should have joined last summer. Oh, and Thomas Partey scored.

9. Chelsea 2-4 Arsenal
Although the Gunners were sloppy at times, a win at Stamford Bridge has to make the top 10. Four goals as well. Good going, guys.

8. Watford 2-3 Arsenal
Another terrific performance that was made less comfortable by conceding needlessly. Arsenal played some of their best football of the season in this match and scored three terrific goals. Alexandre Lacazette’s link-up play in this match was as good as it has ever been.

7. Arsenal 2-0 Leicester City
Nice and comfortable win for Arsenal. We even got treated with another Partey goal!

6. Leeds United 1-4 Arsenal
Convincing win for the Gunners but it was against an extremely depleted Leeds team. If they wanted the game postponed, they probably would have had a request accepted.

5. Arsenal 3-0 Southampton
Arsenal scored, arguably, their goal of the season in this match with the Saints barely laying a glove on them.

4. Arsenal 5-1 Everton
Sat in the front row in the scorching heat watching this was fun. Arsenal dominated and weren’t troubled by Everton at all, except for their goal.

3. Norwich City 0-5 Arsenal
Arsenal ruined Norwich fans’ Christmas with a statement 5-0 win at Carrow Road.

2. Arsenal 3-1 Tottenham
Top class performance from everyone on the pitch. It’s a shame Aaron Ramsdale couldn’t get a clean sheet for his troubles but Arsenal were terrific and a win against that lot is always sweet.

1. Arsenal 2-0 West Ham United
Arsenal’s best Premier League performance of the season – the Gunners brushed West Ham aside with Gabriel Martinelli and Smith Rowe on the scoresheet.
