Ray Parlour: Arsenal CAN win the Premier League!

We sat down with Arsenal legend Ray Parlour courtesy of Anchor NetBet Online Betting following a winless week for Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League and Premier League. We asked him if he still fancies the gunners to take Manchester City’s crown or is it over following the defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday.

Ray told theafcnewsroom.com: “The league isn’t over but it’s a lot tougher now for Arsenal. [Manchester] City are ahead and if last year is anything to go by, then they won’t let up and on paper, they have winnable games.

“It is still possible, but first up Arsenal must beat Wolves to regain their confidence. The team looked tired in the second half, but credit to [Aston] Villa. We have to bounce back. Look at 2004, we went out of both cups and then 2-1 down to Liverpool and came back to win 4-2. We need a big moment vs. Wolves and then vs. Chelsea. Win those and then we see what City have got..

With Arsenal shining on the pitch this season we felt it was only right to pick out his standout player who is the most important if they were to get injured. He said:

“Tough question this one as attacking wise [Bukayo] Saka is such a threat and [Martin] Odegaard makes Arsenal tick with his press and outstanding use of the ball. He has impressed since the turn of the year and been the driving force.

“But [William] Saliba and Gabriel have been giants in defence. Against City both were superb. As a partnership they are so important to Arsenal. Losing any of them two I would say would hampen Arsenal’s title challenge. With [Thomas] Partey back fit, he can come in should [Declan] Rice get injured and we have good cover with Jorghino as well.

‘”With the way Arsenal play Odegaard is one you want in the team as captain, however the centre-back pairing is massive and losing one of them would cause issue for the team.”
