The last time the sides faced each other in this competiton was ten years ago in the 2009/10 season which saw the Gunners come out as 2-1 winners with goals from Fran Mérida and Nicklas Bendtner. Going back slightly further most won’t forget the famous  6-3 goal fest at Anfield in which the North London side came out on top once again following an iconic display by brazilian forward Julio Batista.
