There is a feeling around the camp that the 24-year-old will opt to decline any contract extension put on the table by the Bundesliga side.
The Gunners are light in midfield due to the injury of Granit Xhaka. They now have just Thomas Partey who has a fairly poor injury record since joining the Premier League as well as the inexperienced Albert Sambi Lokonga.
Mo Elneny is another on the peripheries as well as Ainsley Maitland-Niles who has stood out in recent weeks in his preferred midfield role giving Mikel Arteta something to think about.
Nonetheless, Zakaria will be able to sign a pre-contract with Premier League clubs in two months. The north London side will do well to secure the services of such a talent.
